By adding lime or calcium oxide we can neutralize the soil. It is basic in nature and thus helps to bring down the ph level of soil.

surabhdash: alkaline content is also good but base is better according to me .

generally people add bases to neutrilise  the soil . It depends on because of what is it acidic and finding a basic compound for it . the condition is they should be in same proportion .
