Let x be the cost price of 1 kg of rice

Let y be the selling price of 1 kg of rice.

Therefore,

Cost Price = 45x

Selling Price = 45y

Loss = 5y

Express the cost price in term of y

45x - 45y = 5y

45x = 50y

So the cost price of 45x can be expressed as 50y

Find the loss percentage:

Loss = loss/cost price x 100

Loss = 5/50 x 00

Loss = 10%

Answer: The shopkeeper loses 10% from the sales.
