the method is known as chromatography.
steps are
1.take a thin strip of filter paper
2.draw a line approximately 3cm above the lower edge
3.put a small drop of ink at the centre of line.
4.lower the filter paper into a jar or glass or beaker or test tube containing water so that the drop of ink on the paper is just above the water level and leave it undisturbed
5.watch carefully as the water rises up on the filter paper.
6. as water rises the colours get seperated
