Untouchability is one of the prominent and shameful aspects of our traditional Hindu Society.

Although it did not always exist in our culture, it deepened its insidious roots into the fabric of our culture, and although many efforts were made by national leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar, this menace still happens in our country, mostly in remote villages where there is a lack of education.

Untouchables are not part of the Varna system and are the fifth class.

Article 17 banished untouchability from India.
