Answer: This may help you

Explanation:

Usually, the shadow is of the black colour because it is formed by the white light from the sun. Black is the opposite colour of white. In case you use different colour of light to cast a shadow you will get a shadow of opposite colour of light used to cast shadow.

Colour of shadow isn't black. And shadow doesn't have any colour as doesn't Light. In the picture above the shadow is cast on a darkish ground. So, it looks blackish.

What is happening is that shadow is simply an area where light doesn't fall directly. However, depending on the scale of the shadow, Light still moves sideways. So, we see the shadow as less bright area. If the light didn't hit that area at all, we would literally see it as black. But that can happen only in a complete absence of light.

Absence of light is like absence of energy that makes objects send information about themselves. So, darkness or blackness is simply an absence of information. And this is not the same black that an object of black colour would have when Light energises it. Such blackness still emits information about itself. Shadows can be from different level of lack of light, and for this reason they can simply have less bright colours.

In the darkest night you won't see your stretched hands un front of you. But in such case everything around you would appear completely black because there is no information that our eyes can perceive coming from anywhere. This is why the sky in the night appears black too. There are no objects that are sending information to us or those objects aren't close enough. And shadows are closer to this situation. This is why they might appear black in a very weak Light.

Actually, it isn't correct to say that shadow has a colour. It is a phenomenon and, for this reason, it doesn't even have any physical properties.
