C1. Three advantages of having local self-government:-
i) Its main task is to implement development programmes.
ii) Executing government schemes related to generating employment in the village.
iii) The construction and maintenance of water sources, roads, drainage, school buildings and other common property resources.
C2. The Panchayats are at the first tier or level of democratic government.
There are three different levels of panchayats.
The first level is Gram Panchayat
The second level is at the block level called the Janpad Panchayat or Panchayat Samiti.
The third level is District Panchayat or Zila Parishad.
C3. Every police station has an area that comes under its control. All persons in that area can report cases or inform the police about any theft, accident, injury, fight, etc. It is the responsibility of the police of that station to enquire, to investigate and take action on the cases within its area.
D1. the Municipal Corporation that takes care of street lights, garbage collection, water supply, keeping the streets and the market clean. The Municipal Corporation is also responsible for ensuring that diseases do not break out in the city. It also runs schools, hospitals and dispensaries. And makes gardens and maintains them. In smaller towns it is called a Municipal Council. the Municipal Corporation has to make a lot of decisions as well as do a lot of work to keep the city clean. The decisions like where a park or a new hospital should go are usually made by the Ward Councillors. The city is divided into different wards and ward councillors get elected.
E1. A state is very large and lakhs of people live in it. It is not possible for an individual or a group of few inviduals to govern it. So it is better to divide a state into smaller administrative units. This makes the implementation work easier.

4. A new law called Hindu Succession Amendment Act, 2005 is passed by government. In the new law sons, daughters and their mothers can get an equal share in the land. The same law will apply to all states and union territories of the country. This law will benefit a large number of women. On the death of main male member of the family, his wife or daighters can still manage the land and earn their livelihood from it. In the absence of such law, they will lose the land and live a life in utmost poverty.
