First law of thermodynamics :- it states that if an amount of heat ∆Q is added to a system , a part of it may increase its internal energy ∆U while the remaining part may be used up as the external work ∆W done by the system.
e.g ∆Q =∆U+ ∆W
we also write ∆W =P∆V
so,
∆Q =∆U + P∆V
e.g ∆Q =∆U+ ∆W
we also write ∆W =P∆V
so,
∆Q =∆U + P∆V

Acc. to this law, whenever heat is added to a system, it transforms to an equal amount of some other forms of energy.
