Generally metal halides are the salt which have tendency to dissolve in water and so they are found naturally in lakes or sea water while the metal sulphides are not so soluble rather they are insoluble in nature and so remain as rock .

Metal halides being soluble in the water get dissolved in rainwater and are carried to lakes and seas during weathering of rocks.

On the other hand, metal sulphides being insoluble are left behind in the rock as residue.
