Ethanol and methanol are members of a homologous series same base formula and functional group but differ by a repetitive addition of a CH2 group. the boiling points of homologous series are linear versus their molecular weight

The following is direct from the reference below

* Each member of a homologous series has a common difference of -CH2 from the next higher or lower member.

* Common general methods of preparation exist for all members of the series.

* All members exhibit similar chemical behavior.

* An increase in molecular mass of members within a homologous series show a similar regular gradation of the physical properties, such as, physical state, melting and boiling points etc.

C2H5OH would have a higher boiling point because it can form hydrogen bonds between its molecules. So, more energy is needed to break the strong hydrogen bond.
