C2H60+H2SO4=C2H4+H2O+H2SO4

hope it helps!!!!!

MarcusJebasty: What is actually c6h60???
NarayanRaj: how come H2SO4 can be obtained again ???
anonymousgirl27: that is how it is
NarayanRaj: no
anonymousgirl27: yes
anonymousgirl27: u can check anywhere
NarayanRaj: it will oxygen i hope so
anonymousgirl27: wat i didnt get u
sree70: C2h6o is ethanol c2h5oh and the reaction is dehydration reaction. The other product is H2SO4. H2O. Means H2SO4 has taken out water from ethanol
NarayanRaj: ya

Final answer:

                          H_{2}SO_{4}

           C_{2}H_{6}O ─────→ C_{2}H_{4}+ H_{2}O

Given that: We are given,

                        H_{2}SO_{4}

           C_{2}H_{6}O ─────→ C_{2}H_{4}+ ?

To find: We have to find other by product.

Explanation:

                          H_{2}SO_{4}

           C_{2}H_{6}O ─────→ C_{2}H_{4}+ H_{2}O

  • An organic compound C_{2}H_{6}O is ethanol which is also represented as C_{2}H_{5}OH.
  • When ethanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid around 170\° C, ethane is formed. This is intermolecular dehydration reaction which involves removal of a water molecule from ethanol. So concentrated H_{2}SO_{4} act as dehydrating agent.
  • The intermediate formed in this reaction is CH_{3}-CH_{2}-HSO_{4}.
  • This ethane further reduced to form ethane which is C_{2}H_{6}.
  • Ethene on reaction with cold dilute alkaline KMnO_{4} (Baeyer’s reagent) produces ethylene glycol.

The reaction:

                                cold dilute alkaline KMnO_{4}

                CH_{2}=CH_{2} ────────────→ CH_{2}OH-CH_{2}OH

                 Ethane                                                Ethylene glycol

  • Ethene is a colourless and flammable gas, which is used as a monomer in Polyethylene production also used for produce other chemicals.
