(C6H5CH2)2Cd + 2 CH3COCl ---> 2 C6H5CH2COCH3 + CdCl2

• It is one of the better methods to synthesis ketones.

• In this reaction, first the  major compound is treated with cadmium.

• Then the cadmium compound is treated with acyl chloride to form ketones.

• This reaction can also form alkane when the cadmium compound is reacted with alkyl halides.
