The valency of calcium is 2+.Calcium

has 2 electrons in its outermost shell ,its electronic configuration being (2,8,8,2). In order to attain stability it loses 2 electrons to become stable according to the octet rule. By losing electrons it gains a positive charge hence the valency of Calcium is 2+.

Oxygen has 6 VALANCE (outer shell) electrons. To complete a stable octet it requires a further two. Oxygen has a valency of -2 (minus 2) because it can acquire 2 elections. The valency of oxygen is -2. This means oxygen needs to gain or share two electrons for stability.
