Solution:

An ionic compound are the compound composed of ion that are held strongly by the strong electrostatic interactive forces between the cations and anions. The unit cell structure and composition remain the same. The ions are arranged in the space to form the 3D array in order to maximize the attractive electrostatic forces and reduce the repulsive forces between them. Ionic compounds have an ionic ratio of 1:1 which results in the zero electrical charges. Ionic compounds can contain a “metal and a nonmetal” like CaF2, NaCl, MgO, Li3N etc or polyatomic like Na2SO4, (NH4)2CO3, NH4SCN etc.
