It is a type of decomposition reaction :-
CaCO3(on heating) -----> CaO + CO2
when we further dissolve slaked lime in water it will form calcium hydroxide
CaO+H2O-------> Ca(OH)2(lime water)

you can test this reaction by taking a chalk and burning it red hot on the flame. After this let it cool.Then put some phenolphtalein drops on the chalk pieces. It will turn pink indicating that these is a base.CO2 gets out of it
