Calcium plays a major role in egg activation and maturation of mammalian oocyte in human fertilization. It helps in the phospholipase C diffusion to egg from sperm. Calcium plays a major role in all the three stages of cell division. In early embryos, calcium plays a vital role in the development of patterning. Calcium is also required throughout the growth of the embryo with sufficient help for the growth of the bones and other organs.
