calcium reacts with cold water
it forms calcium hydroxide and hydrogen gas is evolved
ca + 2h²o---->CA(oh)²+h²
the reaction is not so violent for Hydrogen to catch fire and hence hydrogen bubbles stick to the surface of calcium making it float
* it is to be kept in mind that magnesium reacts with hot water but calcium reacts with cold water
