Semi-perimeter (s) of the triangle having sides a=15, b=17, c=8 is given as

$s=\frac{a+b+c}{2}$  

$=\frac{15+17+8}{2}$

$=20$    

Now, using Hero's formula the area of triangle is given as

$\sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}$  

$=\sqrt{20(20-15)(20-17)(20-8)}$  

$=60 sq. units$

semi perimeter is 15+17+8/2=20
by herons formula,
√s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)
√20*5*3*12
