The amount of carbon dioxide produced on combustion of 24 grams of methane is 66 grams.

When hydrocarbons are reacted with oxygen or on complete combustion of hydrocarbon we get carbon dioxide and water. So the reaction is:-

Formula of methane is CH4

CH4 + 2O2(g)------> CO2(g) + 2H2O(l)

It is clear from above reaction that  when 1 mole of methane is reacted with 2 moles of oxygen we get one mole of CO2  and 2 moles of water.

Mass of 1 mole of CH4 = 16 grams ( molecular mass)

Mass of 1 mole of CO2 =44 grams( molecular mass)

So we have 16 grams of CH4 gives 44 grams of CO2

1 gram CH4 gives 44/16 grams of CO2

So 24 grams of CH4 give 44/16 * 24 grams of CO2

So 24 grams of CH4 gives 66 grams of CO2.

So amount of CO2 produced is 66 g on combustion of 24 g of methane.
