✯♦Let us see, how much quantity of heat is required.

♦Heat required to melt 5g of ice at 0°C to water at 0°C = 5g × 80 calorie per gram= 400 calorie.

♦Heat required to raise the temperature of 5g of water from 0°C to 100°C = 5g × 1calorie/g/1°C rise of temperature× 100°C= 500 calorie

♦Heat required to convert water at 100°C to steam at 100°C = 5g× 540calorie/g = 2700calorie.

♦Therefore total heat required = 400 calorie+500 calorie + 2700 calorie= 3600 calorie.

The amount of heat required is 3600 cal.

Definition of heat :

  • The movement of kinetic energy from one media or item to another, or from an energy source to a medium or object, is referred to as heat.
  • Radiation, conduction, and convection are three methods for transferring energy.

Solution -

5g ice at zero to 5g\\ water at zero.

Q 1 =m*l_{f} =5*80=400 cal

5g ice at zero to 5g\\ water at 100^{0} C.

Q 2 =ms ΔT=5*1*100=500 cal

5g water at 100^{0} C to 5g\\ steam at 100^{0} C,

Q 3 =ml_{v}  =5*540=2700 cal

Q=Q 1 +Q2 +Q 3=3600 cal

Therefore, the amount of heat required is 3600 cal.
