Answer:

Here is the scenario, I leave home and drive to the cafe which is 3 km away in 1 hour. I take breakfast for 30 minutes. From the cafe, I drive to my friends house in 45 minutes which is 2.5 km from the cafe. I pick my friend and we head for the library which is 4.5 km away from my friend's house. We get to the library after 1 hr and 45 minutes

The average speed for this whole journey from my home to the library is 2.5 km/hr

Explanation:

Average speed formula:

Average speed = total distance traveled / total time taken

Let's calculate the total distance

Home to cafe = 3km

Cafe to friend's house = 2.5 km

Friends house to library = 4.5km

Total distance = 3 km + 2.5 km + 4.5 km = 10 km

Let's now get the total time taken:

Home to cafe =  1 hour

In the Cafe  = 30 minutes = 0.5 hours

Cafe to friends home = 45 minutes = 0.75 hours

Friend's home to library 1 hour 45 minutes = 1.75 hours

Total time taken = 1 hr + 0.5 hr + 0.75hr + 1.75hrs = 4 hours

Therefore total distance is 10km and total time is 4 hours

Average speed = total distance / total time

                        = 10 km / 4 hours

                        = 2.5 km/hr

Therefore the average speed from my home to the library is 2.5km/hr
