Answer:

In H2+when two hydrogen atoms come closer, then on combining two 1s orbitals,two molecular orbitals are formed among which one is bonding and other is antibonding molecular orbital. Now on adding one electron to H2, H2- is formed. What is the order of the bond length among H2, H2+, and H2-?

The bond order of H_2^+ is 0.5.

Given: H_2^+

To find Bond order.

Solution:

The number of electrons present in hydrogen is 2.

In H_2^+ one electron is removed so, the number of electrons is 1.

The electronic configuration is-

 { \sigma1s}^{1}

Thus the number of bonding electrons is one and the number of antibonding electrons is 0.

Bond order=1-0/2

=0.5

Thus bond order of H_2^+ is 0.5.
