Given:

A solar panel producing 20 W power on consuming 500 W by solar radiation. Area of solar panel is 0.5 m².

To Find:

What is efficiency of solar panel?

Solution:

Area of solar panel = 0.5 m²

Input power\mathbf{ =E_{in}=  500 \ W}

Output power\mathbf{ =E_{out}=  500 \ W}

We know that efficiency of any machine or device is ratio of output energy to input energy, means:

\mathbf{Efficeincy=\eta =\dfrac{E_{out}}{E_{in}}\times 100}

On putting respective value in above equation:

\mathbf{Efficeincy=\eta =\dfrac{20}{500}\times 100}

\mathbf{Efficeincy=\eta =\dfrac{20}{5}}

Efficiency = η = 4 %

Means efficiency of solar panel is 4%.
