Given:

The length of string l= 0.5 m

The stretched mass 2×10⁻⁴

The tension on the string T= 20 N

To find:

The frequency of the second harmonic

Solution :

Formula for it is

The frequency of second harmonic is equal to 2 times of first harmonic

n₂=2n₁

As n₁=\frac{1}{l} \sqrt{T/m}

Now the mass per unit length = 2×10⁻⁴/0.5

m'=4×10⁻⁴

Putting the value in the above formula

n₂=2×\frac{1}{0.5} \sqrt{200000/4}

n₂=447.2 Hz

So the frequency of second harmonic be 447.2 Hz
