Mass of sucrose= 225 g

Mass of water= 225 g

Mass in grams of sucrose and the mass in grams of water that must be used to prepare 450g of 50% by mass of sucrose solution can be calculated as:

"Mass percentage = Mass of solute / Mass of solution × 100"

Here,  Mass percentage = 50 %

          Mass of solution = 450 g

          Mass of solute = ?

→ 50 = Mass of sucrose / 450 g × 100

Cross multiplying:

∴ Mass of sucrose = 50 × 450 ÷ 100

                               = 225 g

Mass of water = Mass of solution - Mass of sucrose

                        = 450 g - 225 g

                        = 225 g
