The electrolysis of copper sulphate (CuSO4) solution placed on series with a silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution.
so, equivalents of copper = equivalents of silver
or, mass of copper/equivalent mass of copper = mass of silver/equivalent mass of silver
we know,
- equivalent mass of copper = 63.5/2 = 31.75
- equivalent mass of silver = 108/1 = 108
given, 0.108g of silver is being deposited.
or, mass of copper/31.75 = 0.108/(108)
or, mass of copper = 0.001 × 31.75
= 0.03175g
hence, 0.03175g of copper deposited.
