Given: Calcium carbonate.

To find: We have to find the mass % of each element present in the molecule of calcium carbonate.

Solution:

The formula of calcium carbonate is CaCO_3.

The atomic weight of Ca is 40 and C is 12.

The atomic weight of Oxygen is 16.

The molecular weight of calcium carbonate is 40+12+16×3= 100g.

Thus the mass percentage of Ca is-

 \frac{40}{100} \times 100 = 40\%

Thus the mass percentage of C is-

 \frac{12}{100} \times 100 = 12\%

Thus the mass percentage of Oxygen is-

 \frac{48}{100} \times 100 = 48\%

The mass % of each element present in the molecule of calcium carbonate is 40%, 12% and 48%.
