Quantity of sulfur = 16g
Moles S = 16 g / 32 g/mol = 0.5
Moles O2 needed = 0.5
Mass of O2 = 0.5 mol x 32 g/mol = 16 g
Moles SO2 produced = 0.5
Mass SO2 = 0.5 mol x 64 g/mol = 32 g
Therefore the atomic mass of so2 -
32+(16 × 2)
= 64
If 16g of sulfur is used, then the tomic mass of so2
= 16+(16 × 2)
= 48
Thus, the mass of sulfur dioxide is 48g.
