Calculate the mean and median of the following data: 3, 1, 5, 6, 3, 4, 5, 3, 7, 2

Answer:

Arranging given marks in ascending order,

4,7,7,9,9,9,10,12,15

Number of observations (n)=9

⇒ Mean=94+7+7+9+9+9+10+12+15=982=9.11

⇒  Here, number 9 occurs maximum number of times i.e 3 times.

∴  Mode=9

Number of observation is odd number

∴  Median=(2n+1)thobs=(29+1)thobs=5thobs

Here, 5thobs=9

∴  Median=9

⇒   So, we can see mean measure is maximum and mode,median measures are minimum.
