Answer:

Mean deviation of the given data = 4.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data  3, 6, 5, 7, 10, 12,15,18

here we need to find mean deviation of the data

the formula for mean deviation =  [Σ |x – µ|]/N

here   x = each value in given data

μ = mean of the data

N = number of values in data

⇒ mean of the data μ = sum of the values ÷ number of values

                                    = \frac{3+6+5+7+10+12+15+18}{8}  = 76/8 = 9.5

⇒ now subtract mean from each data values

 ⇒  3 - 9.5  = - 6.5

      6 - 9.5  =  - 3.5

      5 - 9.5  =  - 4.5

      7 - 9.5  =  -  2.5

      10 - 9.5 =  - 0.5

      12 - 9.5 =   2.5

      15 - 9.5 =   5.5

      18 - 9.5 =  8.5

⇒  [Σ |x – µ|] =  6.5+3.5+ 4.5+ 2.5+ 0.5+ 2.5+ 5.5+ 8.5 = 34   (Ignore "- ")

⇒ mean deviation =  [Σ |x – µ|]/N

                              = 34/ 8 = 4.25
