Given:-

Mass of alcohol in solution = 46g

Mass of water in solution = 180g

To calculate:-

Mole fraction of each component.

Answer :- Mole fraction of ethanol = 0.090

Mole fraction of water = 0.909

Solution :-

Mole fraction :- It is the ratio of the moles of the one component to the total number of moles present in the solution.

Mole fraction of a solute is given by :-

\boxed{\sf{ X_a = \dfrac{n_A}{n_A + n_B}}}

where X_a is mole fraction of solute.

Now,

First calculate the mole of each component.

Mass of ethanol = 46 g

Molar mas of ethanol = 46 g

Moles of ethanol = \dfrac{46}{46}

Moles of ethanol = 1

Mass of water = 180 g

Molar mass = 18 g

Moles of Water = \dfrac{180}{18}

moles of water = 10

Now,

Total number of moles = 1 + 10

= 11

Mole fraction of ethanol = \dfrac{1}{11}

= 0.090

Mole fraction of Water = \dfrac{10}{11}

= 0.909
