a.MgSO4
molar mass of Mg= 24g
molar mass of S= 32g
molar mass of O4= 16×4= 64g
molar mass of MgSO4= 24+32+64=120g
here SO4 is polyatomic

b.Na2CO3
molar mass of Na2= 2×23=46
molar mass of C= 12g
molar mass of O3= 16×3= 48g
molar mass of Na2CO3= 46+12+48=106g
here CO3 is polyatomic

A polyatomic ion is a group of  atoms containing a charge.
1) MgSO4 will have a +2 charge
2)Na2CO3 will have a -2 charge

hope this is correct...

Answer:

The molar mass of the compound

a) MgSO₄ is 120g and the polyatomic ion present is SO₄⁻².

b)Na₂CO₃ is 106g and the polyatomic ion present is CO₃⁻².

Explanation:

Given the atomic masses of Mg = 24u ,C = 12u, O = 16u, S = 32u, Na = 23u.

a) Molar mass of Mg= 24g

The molar mass of S= 32g

The molar mass of O4= 16×4= 64g

The molar mass of MgSO4= 24+32+64=120g

Polyatomic ion: SO₄⁻²

b)

The molar mass of Na2= 2×23=46

The molar mass of C= 12g

The molar mass of O3= 16×3= 48g

The molar mass of Na₂CO₃= 46+12+48=106g

Polyatomic ion: CO₃⁻².
