Given: the weight-to-weight % of H₂SO₄, w/w = 28%

            the density of H₂SO₄, d = 1.202 g/ml

To Find: the molarity of H₂SO₄, - M =?

Solution:

Formula used:

  • Density = mass(m)/volume(V)
  • Molarity = moles of solute/Volume of Solution in liter
  • Number of Moles - n= Given mass(m)/Molecular mass (M')
  • 28% w/w solution implies 28g H₂SO₄ in 100g solution

Applying the above formula to calculate the volume of Solution:-

d = m/V

V = m/d

V = 100/1.202

V = 83.3ml

V = 83.3/1000

V= 0.083L

Applying the above formula to calculate the moles of H₂SO₄:-

n = m/M'

n = 28/98 (M' of H₂SO₄ = 98g)

n = 0.29 moles

Applying the above formula to calculate the Molarity of Solution:-

M = n/V

M = 0.29/0.083

M = 3.5 M

Hence, the molarity of H₂SO₄ is 3.5 M.
