Answer:

10/67

Explanation:

Moles of water in mixture=12/18=2/3

moles of acetic acid in mixture = 108/60 = 18/10

moles of ethanol in mixture= 92/46 = 2

mole fraction of water = (2/3)/(2/3+1.8+2) = (2/3)/[(2+5.4+6)/3] =2/13.4=20/134 = 10/67

therefore 10/67 is the mole fraction of water in mixture.

hope this helps!!!!!  :-  )

The mole fraction is 0.14.

Given - Mass of water, acetic acid and ethyl alcohol

Find - Mole fraction

Solution - Mole fraction of water = number of moles of water/total number of moles

Number of moles of water = mass/molar mass

Molar mass of water = 18 gram/mol

Number of moles of water = 9/18

Number of moles of water = 0.5

Molar mass of acetic acid = 60 g/mol

Number of moles of acetic acid = 60/120

Number of moles of acetic acid = 0.5

Molar mass of ethyl alcohol = 46 g/mol

Number of moles of ethanol = 115/46

Number of moles of ethanol = 2.5

Mole fraction =  \frac{0.5}{0.5 + 0.5 + 2.5}

Mole fraction =  \frac{0.5}{3.5}

Mole fraction of water = 0.14

Hence, the mole fraction of water is 0.14.
