Given: 110-kg football player running at 8.0 m/s,  hard-thrown 0.410-kg football that has a speed of 25.0m/s.

To find: Compare the momentum of both.

Solution:

  • Now we have given mass of football player as 110 kg and velocity as 8 m/s.
  • So momentum 1 = m1v1

                   momentum 1 = 110 x 8

                    momentum 1 = 880 kg m/s

  • Also, we have given mass of hardthrown as 0.410 kg and velocity  as 25 m/s.
  • So momentum 2 = m2v2

                    momentum 2 = 0.410 x 25

                    momentum 2 = 10.25 kg m/s

  • Now comparing both, we get:

                   momentum 1 / momentum 2 = 880 kg m/s /  10.25 kg m/s

                   momentum 1 / momentum 2 ≈ 89 times.

Answer:

So the ratio of momentum 1 / momentum 2 comes out to be 89 times.
