1 Mole of Bromine = Avogadro Number of molecules = 80g

As 80g of Bromine = Avogadro Number of molecules
32g of Bromine = Avogadro Number of molecules * 32 / 80
= 32 * 6.022 * 10^23 / 80
= 2.4088 * 10^23 atoms

Given: the mass of Br₂ - m = 32g

To Find: Number of atoms - N =?

Solution:

Formula used:

  • Number of moles - n = given mass (m)/Molecular mass(M)
  • Molecular mass of Br₂ - M = 80 × 2 = 160g
  • Also n = number of atoms (N)/ Avagadro number(Nₐ)
  • Nₐ = 6.023 × 10²³
  • Therefore, m/M = N/Nₐ

Applying the above formula to find the number of molecules of Br₂ in 32g of Br₂

m/M = N/Nₐ

32/160 = \frac{N}{6.023 * 10^{23} }

N = \frac{32 * 6.023 * 10^{23} }{160}

N = \frac{192.736 * 10^{23} }{160}

N = 1.2 × 10²³

Calculating the Number of atoms of Br

Atomicity of Br₂ = 2

number of atoms = 2 × 1.2 × 10²³

                             = 2.4 × 10²³ atoms

Hence, the number of atoms in 32g Br₂ =  2.4 × 10²³ atoms
