45➡ When two mirrors are placed at an angle of A , number of images formed are 360oA−1 . As ∠A=40o , number of images will be 360o40o−1=9−1=8 .
60 ➡If the angle between two plane mirrors is 60 degrees, then what is the number of images made of an object situated in between the mirrors? There will be 5 images formed..
90 ➡ When we simply use n=360/90 =4 we get an even number, but we should get an odd integer so we use other formula. So we get 3 images when the two mirrors are placed at 90 degree. This is how we can find number of images without drawing. So, a total of three images will be formed.
Explanation;
Formula for calculating this is (360/n) -1 [n=given angle]
i) 7 images => 360/45 = 8-1= 7
ii) 5 images => 360/60 = 6-1= 5
iii) 2 images => 360/120 = 3-1= 2
iv)1 image => 360/180 = 2-1 = 1.
v) infinite images => 360/0 = infinite (anything divided by 0 is infinite) -1 = infinite (if you take 1 away from infinite, it does not matter much so we can take it as infinite only)
