{31}_x_{15}

  • Here 31 is the mass number.
  • Here 15 is the Atomic Number.

AS you know Atomic Number = No:of protons = No:of electrons

So atomic mass = No:of protons+No:of neutrons

31 = 15+N

31-15= N

16 = No:of neutrons

16 Neutrons

Given:

Element X

Mass number of the Element = 31

Number of Electrons in the Element = 15

To Find:

Number Of Neutrons in the element

Formula used for calculating mass number of an element:

Mass Number = Number Of Protons + Number Of Neutrons

Substituting the values known to us in this formula we get:

31 = 15 + x

31 - 15 = x

x = 16

Therefore, the number of neutrons present in the atom is 16 neutrons.
