The major components of the air are: Nitrogen - 78% Oxygen - 20% Argon - 0.93% Carbon dioxide - 0.031% Other gases such as Neon, Helium, Hydrogen etc, are present in trace amounts. The increasing order of the boiming points of the above gases is : Nitrogen (lowest) Argon Oxygen Carbon dioxide. Therefore, Carbon dioxide forms the liquid first as the air is cooled and nitrogen forms the liquid in the last.
