Theoretical Dipole moment μ = Q x d

Q = charge of electron in coulomb = 1.6 x 10^-19 C

d = bond length in metre

Dipole moment μ = 1.6 x 0.92 x 10^-29 coulomb metre = 1.472 x 10^-29 C-m

= 14.72 x 10^-30 C-m

( 1 D = 3.34 x 10^-30 coulomb metre)

= 14.72 / 3.34 = 4.41 D

Actual dipole moment = 1.91D

% ionic character = actual dipole x 100 / theoretical dipole

= 1.91 x 100 / 4.41

= 43.31 %
