Explanation:

Given Calculate the potential difference across the 4 ohm resistor in the given electrical circuit using kirchhoff  law

  • Now loop is ADCBA
  • So we have – 2I1 + 8 – 6 + I2 = 0
  • Or I2 – 2I1 = - 2
  • I2 – 2I1 + 2 =
  • Now for loop DEFCD
  • So we have - 4(I1 + I2) – I2 + 6 = 0
  •     = - 4I1 - 4I2 – I2 + 6 = 0
  •  =   - 4I1 – 5I2 + 6 = 0
  • =   4I1 +  5I2 – 6 = 0
  • So equations are
  • I2 – 2I1 + 2 = 0-----------------1
  • 5I2 + 4I1 – 6 = 0-----------------2
  • Multiply equation 1 by 5 we get
  • 5I2 – 10 I1 + 2 = 0
  • 5I2 + 4I1 – 6 = 0
  • So – 14 I1 + 16 = 0
  • Or I1 = 8/7
  • I2 – 2(8/7) + 2 = 0
  • Or I2 = 2/7
  • Current across 4 ohm resistor will be
  • I1 + I2
  • = 2/7 + 8/7
  • = 10/7
  • Now v = IR
  •           = 10/7 x 4
  • Or v = 40/7 V
