We have to calculate the ratio of radius of 2nd orbit of hydrogen to 3rd orbit of Li²⁺ ion.

solution : according to Bohr's theory,

radius of nth orbit is given by, r = 0.529 × n²/Z A°

so the radius of 2nd orbit of hydrogen atom.

Z = 1, n = 2

so, r = 0.529 × (2)²/1 = 0.529 × 4 ....(1)

the radius of 3rd orbit of Li²⁺ ion,

Z = 3 , n = 3

so, R = 0.529 × (3)²/3 = 0.529 × 3 ....(2)

from equations (1) and (2) we get,

r/R = 0.529 × 4/0.529 × 3 = 4/3

Therefore the ratio of the radius of 2nd orbit of hydrogen to 3rd orbit of Li²⁺ ion.
