Given that,

Mass of gun = 5 kg

Mass of bullet = 50 g

Velocity = 500 m/s

We need to calculate the recoil velocity of gun

Using conservation of momentum

m_{g}\times(-u_{g})=m_{b}v_{b}

u_{g}=-\dfrac{m_{b}v_{b}}{m_{g}}

Put the value into the formula

u_{g}=-\dfrac{50\times10^{-3}\times500}{5}

u_{g}=-5\ m/s

The recoil velocity of gun is 5 m/s.

We need to calculate the impulse given to the bullet

Using formula of impulse

I=mv-mu

I=m(v-u)

Put the value into the formula

I=50\times10^{-3}(500-0)

I=25\ kg m/s

Hence, The recoil velocity of gun is 5 m/s.

The impulse of the bullet is 25 kg m/s.
