Answer:

The energy is only due to momentum, and not due to rest mass. It depends on the frequency because p=ℏk.

Given:

energy of photon = 5ev

To find:

the rest mass relativistic mass

Explanation:

Energy of photon

E = 5eV

  = 5 × 1.6×10⁻¹⁹ J

 = 8.0×10⁻¹⁹ J

Momentum of Photon,

p = E/c =8.0×10⁻¹⁹ J/ 3×10⁸

  = 2.67 ×10⁻²⁷ kg ms⁻¹

The relative mass of photos

m = P/c =  2.67 ×10⁻²⁷ / 3×10⁸

    = 8.9×10⁻³⁶ kg

According to the variation of relativistic mass with velocity

  m = [m₀/√1 - (v²/c²)]

The velocity of photon, v = c

rest mass of photon, m₀ = 0.

Answer = 8.9×10⁻³⁶ kg
