calculate the total work done when 1 mole of a gas expands isothermally and reversibly from an initial volume of 20 dm cube to a final volume of 40 mcube at 298 k

Temperature (T) = 330 K.

Initial Volume (V₁)= 40 m³

Final volume(V₂) = 80 m³

Using the formula of the Isothermal Expansion,

Work Done = -2.303nrTlog(V₂/V₁)

Work done = -2.303 × 5 × 8.314 × 330 × log(80/40)

∴ Work done = -2.303 × 5 × 8.314 × 330 × 0.3010

∴ Work done = -9509.428 J.
