Here is ur answer........

The Atomic number of chlorine I.e. Cl is 17 and it's electronic configuration is 2,8,7. Since it has 7 valence electrons in it's outermost shell and it needs one electron to complete it's octet. Hence, it's valency is -1.

Hope it helps!

Answer:

Explanation:the atomic number of chloride is 17 so the atomic number is divided into k,l,m,n shell then k has only 2 electron, l has 8 electron m has 7 our last shell is not complete 1 electron has left so the chloride is to share his atom with another atom so it's valence is -1
