CH4 + 2Cl2 → CH2Cl2 +2 HCl
Here, we see that 1 mole of CH4 react with 2 Mole of Cl2 form 1 mole of C2H2 and 2mole HCl.
it means 1 mole of CH4 , forms 2 mole of HCl .
so, 1 volume of CH4 forms 2volume of HCl.
hence,
40 ml of CH4 forms 2 × 40ml HCl
hence, volume of HCl = 80 ml

The reaction would be as follows:-
CH4 + 2Cl2 → CH2Cl2 +2 HCl
Now from the reaction stoichiometry we can find that:-
1 mole of CH4 forms 2 mole of HCl
Therefore,40 ml of CH₄ forms (40*2)ml of HCl that is 80 ml of HCl.
Hope it helps!
