Answer:

There is a mixture of 60 liters milk and water contains 30% water, how much milk is to be added to make it 20% water in the mixture?

A careful study of problem reveals 70% milk solution is to be mixed with 100% pure milk to get 80% milk solution.

Use principle of Alligation.

The ratio of mixture and pure milk is 2:1.

So 30L pure milk is to be added.

Check :

Original mixture volume = 60L

Original milk content = 42L

Milk added = 30L

New Total volume of solution = 90L

New milk content = 42 + 30 = 72L

Or 72/90 x 100 = 80%

New Water content = 18/90 x 100 = 20%
