Tides
Tide is regular rise and fall in the level of the sea twice a day. We call it high tide
when it rises and low tide when it falls. Difference in levels of water between a
high tide and a low tide may be one metre to about fifteen metres.
How are Tides Caused?
Sun and moon both attract the ocean waters of the earth. The moon is much
nearer to earth than the sun. So the effect of moon's gravity is much more. The
moon revolves round the earth and its gravity acts upon the earth pulling both
water and the land part of the earth. The effect of pull on water is always more.
