Correct Question:

Calculate the mass percentage of benzene (C₆H₆) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄) If 22 g of benzene is dissolved in 122 g of carbon tetrachloride.

Answer:-

Given:

Mass of benzene = 22 g

Mass of carbon tetrachloride = 122 g

We know that,

Mass % = (Mass of the solvent or solute / Total mass of the solution ) * 100

  • Total mass of the solution = 22 + 122 = 144 g.

So,

Mass% of benzene = (22/144) × 100

⟶ Mass% of benzene = 15.27 %

Mass% of carbon tetrachloride = (122/144) × 100

⟶ Mass % of CCl₄ = 84.73 %

Additional Information :

  • weight to volume % = (weight of solute / Volume of solution ) × 100

  • Volume to volume% = (Volume of solute / Volume of solution) × 100

  • Volume to Weight % = (Volume of solute / weight of solution) × 100

In general Mass % of X= [Mass of X / Mass of total mixture] x 100

Mass of the total mixture = 22 + 12 = 34g

Mass % of benzene = (22 / 34) x 100 = 64.71%

Mass % of carbon tetrachloride = (12 / 34) x 100 = 35.29%
