Answer:

Both camphor and iodine are volatile substances which sublime at room temperature and hence can not be separated by the sublimation process.Sep 10, 2017

Question given :

Can a mixture of iodine and camphor be separated by the sublime

method? Give reason for your answer

Required answer :

No a mixture of iodine and camphor can't be separated by the sublimation method

Reasons for this statement are as follows :

  • Sublimation is the process in which a substance changes into gaseous state without changing into liquid state

  • It is used in case one of the substance is sublime and one is non sublime

  • In this case both iodine and camphor are sublime

  • When we will heat them they will change into gaseous state

  • They both will produce white gas on heating

  • After they turn into gas it will be difficult for us to identify which one is camphor and which is iodine

  • So sublimation can't be used
